What Is Silicone Compression Molding?
Making silicone items with silicone compression molding is a tried-and-true process. Making waffles in a waffle maker follows the same steps.
In a mold cavity that is sealed and heated, a specific volume of silicone rubber that has not yet fully cured is put. The components are taken out of the mold once they have dried.
The Process Of Silicone Compression Molding
Anyone with even the smallest amount of information may easily understand how the silicone compression molding process works.
- (1) Place the material into the mold;
- (2) Mold plates will be tightly assembled and automatically inserted into the compression molding press machine;
- (3) The compression machine will exert pressure to manufacture high-quality parts;
- (4) A fixed amount of time is used to heat and press so that silicone can spread through the whole cavity and cure;
- (5) After releasing pressure from the press, the mold will open and the separate mold will remove;
- (6) Using the hand tool to separate the plates;
- (7) Removal of the manufactured silicone parts;
Silicone Compression Molding VS Silicone Injection Molding
Silicone compression molding and silicone injection molding have five differences that set them apart.We will examine them below:
- Size of the Good
- Producing Period
- Quantità
- Qualità
- final goods' shape

Custom Silicone Compression Molding FAQs
Stampaggio a compressione is one of the most tranditional and oldest silicone rubber manufacturing technique. Silicone Compression molding has been used to mold silicone rubber parts at the beginning of the rubber manufacturing industry. Silicone compession molding’s main process parameters are: molding time, temperatura, and pressure.
A typical compression molding process lasts three minutes, requires a mold temperature of 350°F, and a mold pressure of 100 psi (180°C and 700 kPa).
The mold is opened and the silicone component is pushed out after the substance has finished hardening. In comparison to other methods, compression molding is less expensive and capable of big volume production.
Compression molding comes in 4 different varieties in terms of mold structure:
- The most popular and straightforward rubber compression mold is the two basic plates mold. This mold is appropriate for rubber components like flat nitrile rubber gaskets or silicone o rings.
- Basic Plates With Middle Section: This mold works well for rubber items like rubber grommet seals that have small undercuts.
- This mold is appropriate for items with substantial undercuts and cylinder-shaped rubber components, such as silicone bottle sleeves. It comes with two basic plates and a mold core.
- Simple Mold Plate with Sliders: This technique can be applied to intricate silicone rubber items with hollow or deep undercut designs.
The most basic and traditional compression mold is a two-plate mold, which works well for items with simple structures and no undercuts, such silicone seals, o-rings, and keypads.
The three-plate mold, which consists of an upper, lower, and center plate, is a useful option for pieces that include undercuts.like a silicone umbrella valve or grommet.
The preheated material is inserted into the cavities of the mold, sealed, and pressure-cured. Compression moldings typically come in three varieties: the two-plate mold (the simplest mold), the three-plate mold (upper and lower mold with middle plate), and the upper and lower mold with moving core.
